Jonas Bostrom

Drug Designer, AstraZeneca

Dr Jonas Boström is principal scientist and molecular modeler in Big Pharma (AstraZeneca) since 2000. He can’t imagine a better job than using data, clever algorithms and combining new and old technologies in innovative ways in scientific research, with the grand purpose of treating diseases. In the future he expects that A LOT more will become automated, with computers doing much more for us – from synthesis machines to AIs designing molecules with optimal properties, to using immersive technologies like augmented and virtual reality to gain a deeper and better understanding of the drugs we are developing. In fact, he’s driving such initiatives and has been listed as one of the top 100 most influential pharma industry professionals (the PowerList 2017 and 2018).

Jonas is also a strong believer in the power of Virtual Reality in chemistry education, and have co-founded the reasonably successful start-up EduChem VR

My Sessions

The Use of VR in Chemistry

Room K4

I will talk about Big Pharma’s chemical past and its digital chemistry future, using virtual reality to design tomorrows drug molecules. And tell the story on how our EdTech startup (EduChem VR) is taking shape – redefining chemistry education.
